Because of the bad principles developed at BAUT ATM forum the concept has been perverted so much that The name ATM implies that BAUT rules may apply here.

I suggested "frontiers" as the name. But no comment from owner.

I suggested the same at BAUT but as we know there is no middle ground there. The mods there "know it all".

Face them with a question they can't answer and/or dodge it must be ATM.

I have a question about appeals of moderation. At BAUT the rule says if you disagree with a mod you should PM the mod or another mod. This rule is interpreted there as not allowing discussion of the mod action in the thread or any discussion of specific mod actions in public at all. Discussions have to be general. This allows the mod puppets to wade in and demand specifics and if answered by anyone including the mod puppets gives the mods an excuse to infract a member or lock the thread. This is a common tactic by mods and their puppets at BAUT to evade criticism. This is one of the pillars of the dishonesty and treachery at BAUT.

Is this how it works here?

It was my criticism at BAUT that got me banned there. I ratted out mod pzkpfw for using a sock puppet named 1100101 or whatever. I posted to toseek that I had analyzed their posting pattern and word use habits and that he could confirm it by checking their ip address. I was banned within the week. Moderator pzkpfw and his sock puppet 100110 (or whatever the hell) stopped posting that week for a month. pzkpfw came back after a month still as a mod but 100110 hasn't been back. I guess I got the right guy.

But pxkpfw is still there, he is and has always been the most agressive, dishonest, detestable mod there. Responsable for most bannings.

The mod system there is used to win flame wars not to improve discussion, educate or advance science. BAUT in my opinion now gives the most unappealing and dishonest impression of science.

There is no reason for me to contribute here is this is how it works here. The rules are not clear on this.

Yeah the initial reason I started this page was because I kept getting banned from Baut for posting in the ATM forum so I started a forum to post stuff that there was absolutely no place on baut to post it ...

I created teh forum Against the mainstream for that purpose ... but I am all up for a change ... Against the Mainstream reminds people of baut or whatever ...
The only problem is I think that all of the links get broken ...

Can anyone else chime in on this point? If you get say 5 people to agree on this thread I will make the change. Fair enough?

I always click through to spacetimeandtheuniverse.com and had been doing that for some time before I found out it also had the againstthemainstream.com url - and, hey, there's another one, cool, spatU.org - sounds like a university for argumentation. Excellent!

I know I'm not at BAUD ('cept in those paranoid moments when I think, at BAUD the ATM is like the crazy wing where they put people like us to keep us away from the sane ones - and this forum is the padded cell in the crazy wing.) When in BAUT I mostly posted in ATM because I got told off whenever I didn't. However I considered most of my posts far more solidly scientifically based than the twaddle that they call main stream. It has been amply demonstrated that Big Bang Theory is nothing more than curve fitting with new imaginary attributes added every time new observations show that the theory does not work. A very expert mathematician/scientist has demonstrated this in published papers.

So I agree with Astrotech that there is a bad association with BAUT ATM in the ATM name. However SPatU is very different to BAUT as is clear to anyone who spends a little time here. So no need to get on one's high horse. Frontiers is as good a name as any.

Years ago I started a web ring called Boundaries of Science for web sites that explored the bits beyond what was well established. It is what science is all about IMO.

So I don't understand the problem with the label Against The Mainstream. Why is it a bad thing to be Against The Mainstream? Other than it might have been used at another board?
