Which comment? You made several. Let's try this one: "If someone is accused of PC, their motives are impugned. They may (or may not) just be trying to be nice, for instance, but the accuser is asserting that they have other, baser, motives--laziness or fear maybe."

My primary gripe with PC occurs when those in power (admins/mods) abuse their authority as a means to force various pseudo-scientific agendas down everyone else's throats. Please think about the last nine words, particularly in the light of waterboarding, as that's precisely what it feels like when it's done to you, especially after spending years and tens of thousands of posts building a reputation on a message forum.

It's not about being bright or well-educated. It's about being violated, despite being both bright and well-educated, while putting my best foot forward. BA/BAUT/CQ could have been SO much better than it is today, but you screwed yourselves over royally when you allowed overly-PC folks to screw over folks like us.

The early days of BA were awesome!!! At one point, Phil himself banned me. I called him on the phone, explained my position, and he un-banned me on the spot, after which I enjoyed several more years of effort and valid input on BA/BAUT. I was not banned for violating the rules. I was banned for holding controversial opinions about anthropogenic global warming which violated Tusenwhatever's sense of PC-propriety, at which point his in-house efforts to get me banned finally succeeded.

Hey - wipe that shocked look off your face! I told you I maintain a very deep presence inside CQ. And stop digging! I never worked counter-intel in the military, but I have friends who did, and I talk to them regularly. You'll never find me.

Just enjoy CQ as is. Like I said, it could have been far better, but it's not all that bad as is. Still way too PC, though. Lighten up!

My oath of office never expires. "God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?" - Thomas Jefferson. "I have far too long suffered fools. No longer will I tolerate the insufferable. Enjoy the vacuum." - Mugs

PS: I scrambled my password, so no, I will not be responding. Get a clue.

That works. No one seems to be refuting that comment.

Your sig points out that the term "politically correct" is a pejorative, I reiterated that in my OP, and all comments since have supported that--even your comment that it's more than a mere pejorative. Maybe it's one of those four-letter words with only two letters that I learned when I was a kid.

Lol, well, if it's more than a pejorative, perhaps that's why it has eighteen characters.

    Default Dr. Benjamin Carson

"P.C. is dangerous because it muffles people. This country was founded on freedom of thought and expression."

You can watch the full version of Dr. Carson's outstanding speech, here. He slams Obama repeatedly, though subtly, and with Obama watching, no less! Check out the daggers shooting out of Obama's eyes... No teleprompter, either.

By the way, Carson has far greater credentials to be President than Obama ever had of being a community organizer.

    Oh, and this is rich!

    Man, I love America!

How do you know he hasn't always believed in evolution?

Did you watch the video? He makes some very astute points on the sad state of math and science education here in America at 13:30. Along with one very good solution.

Speaking of which, I had an interesting conversation about two weeks ago with my neighbor. She's in her mid-20's, and is from India. Employment prospects in India are obviously dismal, so her family immigrated to the U.S. (legally) when she was twelve. They lived in poverty, which for her was better than her living conditions in India. She studied hard! (Mom and Dad insisted) Hard enough, in fact, to earn a full academic scholarship, and she co-op'd her way way through her middle two/three years. She's now two months into her first position as an electrical engineer for a local firm making hardened ICs for use in space applications.

Dr. Carson's comments are dead on: As a society we place far too much emphasis on sports and next to nothing on math and science. The rest of his speech is similarly dead on. Don't be fooled by the word "prayer" in the title. His speech was a clear attack on Obama's ridiculously idiotic political meanderings.

Obama begins shooting daggers out of his eyes around 2:57, when Carson says, "The P.C. police are out in force at all times." At 4:49 he nails it: "What we need to do in this pc world is to forget about unanimity of speech and unanimity of thought and we need to concentrate on being respectful of those with who we disagree. And that's when I think we begin to make real progress."

Dr. Carson adds, "P.C. is dangerous. It muffles people. It puts a muzzle on them. It keeps people from discussing important issues while the fabric of this society is being changed. We cannot fall for that trick."

I agree with Dr. Benjamin Carson, Director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Division at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I do not agree with mods and admins on BAUT who parade around saying "P.C. is great!" Fooey.

If they parade around saying it, it should be easy to find an instance of it. If you can find a single instance, I'll shut up about this whole pejorative thing and bow out of this thread.

Why don't you define what you mean by "parading around". WE know what that means. But since you are the artfull dodger how about you define what "parading around" means before we look for examples that you can dodge as not precicely, exactly, or, how would a mathematical trickster like you put it, RIGOROUSLY!!! matching your unstated definition?

    Or do not respond.

    PS
The characteristic of the artfull dodger is that he does not respond...or responds with a "wall of math".

Or accuses everyone else of being artful dodgers!

I noted that you vanished from the escape velocity thread. Was that artful dodging?

Though you didn't respond with a wall of math, you never provided your math at all (beyond your na´ve over-use of the inverse square law). Always trying to make others provide math but not providing your own. Was that artful dodging?

Claiming you won't provide math because it will be nit-picked, then nit-picking math from other people. Was that artful dodging?

Now, I don't want to re-open the escape velocity discussion here, that's not my intent. I just find it astounding that you feel able to judge the input of other people, as you did in post #18 here. I had to point out your own artful dodging.
    = ?

It wasn't my term, but anyway I wasn't asking for an example of parading around--I'd be happy with an instance of anyone saying it.

    (a+b^n)/n = x; respondez!
