Default Forum Improvements, Moderatorship Duties and explanation of Possible changes

Tom has temporarily suspended the Posting Privileges of
    Astrotech
    7777777...75
    John Gabriel.
    The ban is Temporary.
The purpose of the suspension is to address Flood Posting. Flood posting is disruptive and unnecessary.
While Admin has been working on his degree, many posters have become used to ruling the roost, so to speak. In an anarchy type setting, they have gotten used to saying and doing anything they want. The forum is spoiled rotten. As such, it is also heavily reduced in traffic.
This board may get kind of quiet for a while. If those particular three decide to not return; Do not worry... Others like them will come along soon enough. You can bet on it.
While those three are unable to assert the position they are accustomed to, threads will be merged. Posts will be moved to "Cage Match" if they are off topic in the thread they were posted in. If the addressed posters wish to continue their arguments in the Cage Match area, vent and get it off their chests, they are free to do so.
The Cage Match will be used for posters that get into heated discussion that is off topic for normal thread discussion. In this way, posters are not oppressed or removed from their right of Freedom Of Expression.

One of the major tenets or science is the testing of ideas. In order to facilitate that ideas are tested, that discussions are fair and balanced, expression must not be inhibited but it must not be disruptive, either.

The end goal is to remove the Power of the Moderator. Moderatorship would be an obligation. A duty. Members would moderate the board in shifts, rather than relying on a few moderators that hold the position for too long.
When moderators get comfortable with being moderators, they run the risk of becoming complacent with the idea that they are always right. Just about any action can be justified. And when a person spends too long justifying themselves... a person can begin to lose perspective.

    Feel free to comment.

    Moderator alteration suggestions:

That all active members participate in moderating the board. Members would act on a Moderator Shift rotation.
Only active members would be asked to moderate. For example, before a member gets into the Moderator Shift Rotation, they must have 100 posts.
The amount of Mods acting on a shift would be an Odd Number of Moderators.
Moderator duties would be to move posts to the proper headings, remove post floods or Spam, merge threads.
Moderators would NOT be permitted to alter the wording in anyones posts aside from editing their own posts.
They would not be permitted to ban.
They would not be issuing warnings, infractions or chastising members in any official capacity.
Abuse of Moderator obligations would be one of the very few ban worthy offenses. This is to balance out those that might see their shift as an opportunity to exact revenge or abuse a member or retaliate.
Members can Opt Out of Mod Duty. However, if there is a shortage of moderators... You may get drafted.
Since everyone takes a turn at moderating, it opens up how aware we are of eachother. It levels the field, no more power tripping.
