Heavy handed moderator little (expletive deleted by mod). How many posts with supposed personal attacks are you silently going to go change, now? And me calling the guy that called us clueless- Clueless- was clearly unacceptable.
Astromarks posts? He's got a few...

SO DOES TOM, FOR THAT MATTER. You know, the guy that said he likes to see the occasional argument.
As well as the hot women links in his profile... Yes- this Forum must be KID FRIENDLY!

    Ban Politics! Quick!
    Ban talks about Global Warming!
They lead to Inappropriate content, cussing and arguing. The bastard peons cannot control themselves! We need more rules- somebody please save us with MORE Moderators!

Hey, I volunteer to be a Mod Here! I'll fix it up, nice and goodly.

We came here to get AWAY from that (expletive deleted by mod) and NOW it's here, too?! Thanks, Mugs. Thanks for inviting me over here! Really, I mean that from the bottom of my... (expletive deleted by mod).

Close enough. It has the same exact rules and a Moderator to fit- Only difference is that at least BAUT Is HONEST about it... Somewhat. They admit they HAVE rules and they spell them out as clearly as they feel like it...- You pretend, sneak and lie about the rules and how you have taken it upon yourself to enforce whatever suits you.

Absolutely- YES. Look at what you invited me into- another BAUT (expletive deleted by mod). Apparently one of Your decision and creation! How DARE you ever whine about the rules on BAUT now?

It's sneaking when you do not inform me that you have an issue with the post and you do not inform me you were modifying it- I was totally oblivious that apparently- Mugaliens likes to alter posts without telling people.

I happened across it is how I found out.
    That's SNEAKING, Mugs.

Alter this one- then ban me.
Power tripping little (expletive deleted by mod).

Oh and also-- go fix the rules to say "No Cussing on the adult forum with the Owner having damn near PORN on his profile links..."

And you ALSO need to add a (expletive deleted by mod) of new rules that you Clearly are dying to make and enforce. Dishonest little Hypocrite.
Hey... hey check this out: Here's my impression of me breaking the RULES (Even though a copy of the rule cannot be found) "Mugaliens- (expletive deleted by mod)" OR, I'm sorry- was all your blustering and pushing NOW to make me behave in the manner in which you demand supposed to work? Sorry about that. Seems to have had the opposite effect.

Let me guess- after all this time... You suddenly need to make Rules because Neverfly Joined the forum, right?
No. All forums have rules. Ours are minimal compared to most forums.

    You can Fix that.

As for me- (expletive deleted by mod) - I'm outta here. Have fun editing all the posts and making yourself look as justified and favorably as possible after you've banned me.

Neverfly has been suspended for three days while I discuss this issue with the admin.

In the meantime, I'm leaving his post up (minus the unacceptable language) as an example of how verbal abuse draws the kind of attention one probably doesn't want, and which I would prefer not to give.

This is indeed an adult forum. I spent twenty years in the military and can swear like a sailor. It doesn't offend me. I rarely do so, however, as its not generally acceptable. On a forum like this, one never knows when a child will stumble across it, so it's best to avoid such language here, too. On the other hand, if you want to delve into some racier stuff, there are ways of talking around things such that most kids younger than thirteen won't pick up on it.

You can rant if you want to
You can leave your friends behind
    Cause your friends don't rant
    And if they don't rant
then they're no friends of mine
(I paraphrase - but as has been seen, I wax lyrical today)

I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee

I had thought that the light-hearted approach of my last post might have promoted calm rational discussion and maybe some negotiation of where the boundaries are. For instance, a response to a personal attack, or an offensive post, might draw a comment from the mod such as, "Stop That! It's . . ." and, even then, I don't think there would be a need to remove the offending remarks. Then we could all learn from others' mistakes.
I agree that some things, like libels, pornographic literature, incitements to hatred, and that Smiley that keeps throwing up, need to be removed.

There are rational, logical minds on this forum. We should be able to have a discussion.
Are the people here (and I include Neverfly if he's still with us, when I ask this) capable of working from first principles, or do you only operate the machinery you've learned to drive?

Two of you view the same action and see completely different things!

I appreciate Neverfly's explosive dia(tribe)logue - I'm too repressed for that sort of thing, myself.
    But
There's a difference between expressing anger and having a tantrum. (and more than just whether you injure someone else or yourself)

    I'm truly sorry man's dominion
    Has broken Nature's social union
    An' justifies that ill opinion
    Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion
    An' fellow mortal!

When I was posting on the BaUT forum, there were numerous slights and insults aimed at Astrologers. I eventually took issue with that because it was evidently a backhanded way of attacking me, insulting me. It was allowed and I was required to answer the question.
I wouldn't like it if it got like that here.

But Mousie, thou art no thy lane
In proving foresight may be vain
The best-laid schemes o' mice an’ men
    Gang aft agley
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain
    For promis'd joy!

I like that the rules allow an appeal if someone is banned or whatever. I felt hard done by when I was banned from BAUT. The story told to people about why I was banned had little resemblance to what happened and I had no way to say it was wrong. I had a good following in BAUT and a lot of people asked questions about my ban. Thanks to them also.

I deleted your subsequent post as per your request.

Ray, you posted some very insightful content on BAUT. As a minimally passing musician (guitar, percussion), I found your harmonics approach quite interesting, and never did understand how that was considered "against the mainstream." Harmonic activity is found throughout nature. Ratchet up the energy in a fluid, however, and harmonics will degenerate into turbulent flow, but that's not the area on which you focused your attention.

Some forums ban others for ideological reasons. Not here. Even cussing out a moderator won't necessarily get you permanently banned. Repeatedly doing so after being warned not to, however, will.

Folks, I put the "Gripes?" in the title because Tom and I really do want to hear your gripes... about the rules. Or about the forum in general. Or even about us. Feedback will only help make the forum better. Even if it's seriously negative feedback, that's ok. Bring it on! That's not a challenge, but an invitation. Ego has no place in running a message forum. Our goal is simple: Make the forum better for all members.

    Hi RayTomes,

    Welcome aboard!

In my tenure at BAUT (which I suppose continues unto this day, although I am not active), I confined myself to Fun-n-Games, so I didn't really come across many of your posts. It also appears we did not overlap that much in time. But, not sure what to say, it's a board where you're not to allowed to tell someone you don't read their posts

Anyway, I hope you find this board more to your liking.

    Cheers,

    C

Mugaliens, I ended up posting almost everything in Against the mainstream in BAUT because that was what I was forced to do. But you are right that much of it is really the true mainstream.

I do have a gripe now. This forum does some clever stuff with links (replacing URL by meaningful text) but it then sadly makes that text the same colour as the rest of the text and it isn't obvious that there is a link unless you hover over it. How about links in a different colour?

I have found this aspect of the board mildly annoying as well. I suspect I've missed a lot of links, because they are camouflaged so well

@Coelacanth, too: Tom's working on it. <--- There's linked text in there, somewhere.

Didn't know where else to post this, but just wanted to say that I for one will miss Neverfly. I fully understand the actions taken and take no stance to agree or disagree with those actions. I merely wanted to voice that I had developed a certain appreciation for his contributions, adversarial as they may have been. As for myself, I seem to have developed an uncanny ability to take no offense whatsoever to any degree of even direct personal insult or attack. I don't quite know how I achieved that other than to say that I believe I have come to "know myself" so well. I guess reading Plato in my younger years had some effect.
There are no great mysteries of science or faith, there is only our own ignorance and arrogance which we must overcome.
