Default Open Rules Discussion - Praises? Gripes? This is the place

If you have either praises or grips about the rules, this is the place to air them.

A word: Neither Tom nor I want the rules to rule this forum. We'd much prefer to leave that to common sense and the community at large. We want SpaceTime and the Universe to be a forum for freely expressing ideas, not a stifling pit full of fragile eggshells.

As Mort would say, "Be free!"

    And enjoy.
My oath of office never expires. "God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?" - Thomas Jefferson. "I have far too long suffered fools. No longer will I tolerate the insufferable. Enjoy the vacuum." - Mugs

PS: I scrambled my password, so no, I will not be responding. Get a clue.

I would be willing to debate this in one of the other forums.

    Are you a determinist?

The entire existence of this sub Forum seems to contradict your decree.

The fact that one of my posts (And perhaps more than one- and I haven't noticed the others, yet) was heavily edited and altered into something else without any prior confrontation to me, nor my permission strikes me as the behavior of a BAUT Moderator.
If you don't like what I say - fine. Tell me to leave or tell me off like a man. But don't go and alter my posts behind my back all stealthily.

There seems to be rules here, after-all- and Mod is on the prowl.

I'm far away from BAUT and content to stay that way. And if this place is going to slowly turn into another BAUT- Tom, you wasted your resources and time. For me, I have plenty I can do without posting my brain werks on the internet.

    Have fun y'all.

See, now, I'm curious! What got chopped and why?
    but
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
    Wi bickering brattle!

I, for one, would miss your outspoken, impatient, sometimes intolerant but always honest, testy text.
I hope you stick around long enough to find out what happened - otherwise I'm not going to find out ;-)

(I suppose you're just having some difficulty with the eclipsed full Moon transiting your Mercury/Mars conjunction, or something similar.)

I see, too, that there are rules - I've read them - and, although there's nothing specific about posts libelous being liable to be removed, re-written or redacted - not that I'm saying you wrote a libel (Don't know what you posted.); just giving an example - it's not uncommon on fora for things to be deleted, etc.. Those who run the board are probably within their rights to do whatever they do whatever.

However, that doesn't make it not wrong. A moderator professing "freedom" and "no rules" while, at the same time, instituting a system of law and punishment throws me into "this does not compute - fzzkst, ffzzzkzz" - I must embrace the paradox, or maybe there is no paradox - I don't have enough information to do anything but speculate.

So, did you just go and see how far you could go?
Did you post a picture of Muhammet? (peace be upon him)
Did you say something ending in " . . your Mum!"?
Did you tell someone you were an Astrologer?

stupid 3d map of dark matter.
Post 2 is the one I responded to.

He called the astronomers clueless, citing that they first claimed that galaxies are moving away from us faster than light. His ignorance was amusing. Yeah, I said it. The man's ignorant. Sue me.

I said that actually he was clueless (Nicholas Wizschnozki, Wisowskie, WigglyPiggly, Whatever), explained the apparent FTL of the cumulative expansion effect.

The part where I called Nic-whatever clueless was removed with a bracketed note from Mr. Mod Hat, claiming that the content was removed... My issue with that is it leaves future readers as having no idea what I actually said- it may have been the worst thing imaginable like "Fuck you you fucking fucker." Which is probably what they will imagine. It makes it appear as though I was being inflammatory as all hell. After-all, on a forum where the owner says repeatedly that there are "no rules" I must have really been a terror, crossing not just lines, but continents...
That he did not confront me on it- cite any rule about it (Hmm?) or even address it at all- Just took it all upon himself to change the post pisses me off. It may be Toms forum- but my words are MINE. And if the posts should be removed- Ban me and THEN remove ALL of my posts.

Some other parts were removed with the Mod Brackets saying content removed- I don't remember now what all I had said so I don't know exactly what was censored out at that point.
"No, we're not like BAUT! (Well, we'll just do it all sneaky-like behind your back and be silent and maybe no one will notice...)"

Ok- I called him clueless. I'm a bastard- I agree.

Also- I shall proceed to call Mugaliens an ASS for moving behind my back and accessing my post and altering it without my permission- without any confrontation of me whatsoever- and if he doesn't like it- He's a Mod- He can ban me for it. (Though it would only be a gesture or formality, at this point...)

He was being facetious. He and I hammered out the rules on Tuesday. As forum rules go, they're about as lighthearted as I've ever seen for a science forum.

The fact that one of my posts (And perhaps more than one...)
    It was just one.

    ...was heavily edited
Hardly. I removed a single sentence that was a personal attack. That's not "heavily edited."

    and altered into something else
    Not in the least.

without any prior confrontation to me
Not required. You know full well personal attacks aren't allowed on any decent forum. It's considered "inappropriate content" and as such is subject to removal at any time.

    nor my permission
    Also not required.

strikes me as the behavior of a BAUT Moderator.
As I previously mentioned, attack the posts, not the posters, and you won't have a thing to worry about.

If you don't like what I say - fine. Tell me to leave or tell me off like a man.
As in my statements above? Or was the "Personal attacks removed by moderator" not "manly" enough for you?

But don't go and alter my posts behind my back all stealthily.
Wrong again, Nev. "Personal attack removed by moderator" is hardly "stealth."

There seems to be rules here, after-all- and Mod is on the prowl.
Wow. Two corrections in a week and I'm "on the prowl...."

Neverfly, and this is for everyone, not just Nev: This is a big boy forum, not BAUT. I don't moderate behind the scenes, sneaking in points until someone tries to log on and can't because their point count passed a critical level. If you cross the line (and personal attacks cross the line), I'll let you know in thread, both for your benefit as well as for the benefit of others who're reading the thread.

At that point you have two choices: Stop the personal attacks, or expect a mod to continue to remove them. If you insist on continuing to attack others, we'll do more than just remove the inappropriate content.

What I expect from you and everyone who's a member on this forum, is to go, "Oh, ok. No personal attacks. I get it" and continue to post to your heart's content, instead of stumbling, wigging out, or throwing a tantrum over a simple removal of inappropriate material.

It wasn't even a warning, Neverfly. Get over it.

Which is probably what they will imagine. It makes it appear as though I was being inflammatory as all hell.
With language like what I just removed, I can well imagine! In your defense, Neverfly, it wasn't. It was a simple, but unacceptable, personal attack.

Sorry to disappoint you, Neverfly, but neither Tom nor I want to remove any content, if at all possible, not matter how much we disagree with it.

Some other parts were removed with the Mod Brackets saying content removed- I don't remember now what all I had said so I don't know exactly what was censored out at that point.

You seem to have BAUT on the brain. This isn't BAUT. As for BAUT I went to bat for you so many times I pissed off the mods and admins there. Then I invited you to this forum and this is the thanks I get?

Sheesh, Nev! You haven't even been warned, much less anything else. Call it a friendly OVERT reminder, as no one snuck around your back, particularly with a very clear message "removed by moderator" substituted in place of the single sentence I removed.

I don't ever "sneak." If you haven't gathered that from this post...
