I'm interested in your thinking on this. While I am suspicious of the integrity of the reason you posted for closing it (you allow the .999...=1 thread to go on and on for dozens of pages with no "furtherance" and lots of lack of integrity.) I agree it was going no further.

So why reopen it? (why close it to begin with but...)

Obviously there is more to the topic WRT your OP than was covered in the thread due to the dispute of the unprincipled pastes* of an interloper*2 who was pasting "on your side". But I don't think anyone involved in the thread but I is capable of making progress in the topic. Since you think I'm wrong and the interloper isn't explaining the relevance of his pastes to the OP what are you hoping for in terms of the OP?

*(Attacking the pastes not the paster, as required.)
*2(Another sock puppet of grapes I suspect).

THe hopes was that the bickering was over and that someone may join in and have something else to add to progress the thread. I do think that the first step is to understand EXACTLY which points are in disagreement. But in order to get an understanding you cant have name calling and other bickering going on. It is actually a delicate process. I closed it for a day in hopes that it would die down a bit then left it back open as it is in my opinion and interesting thread.

That's what I figured. Must say I'm quite dissapointed in you.

Ask any question in that thread that you think will help it progress, Tom. I will do my best to answer it.

True. I'm a sockpuppet of SpeedFreek, whoever that is.

Surely the use of the term interloper is technically an ad hominem in of itself? Unless, that is, you apply the term to all new members, which would indicate a certain antipathy towards expanding the membership here. (Don't worry, I'm not the type to press charges!)

Anyway, I am happy to explain anything that anyone asks about anything I have posted.

I am sorry if I come across as brash and unprincipled, but I when I see people posting information about cosmology that doesn't reflect the current consensus I think it is most important to post the correct information about how the model deals with the situation in question. Get the information out there, and then answer the follow up questions about it, as it were.

I just posted my own explanation of how to read a spacetime diagram. The only "pasted" part is the diagram.

It's actually very funny. It's his unprincipled and low-integrity approach to more than one person thinking he's wrong... call one of them a sock puppet of the other, so that he can pretend it's just one person who doesn't agree with him.
    = ?
