Default Trolls and/or idiots, spammers, etc.

I think that at the very least, we should be able to bar (not ignore, but REMOVE) posts that we deem irrelevant to threads that we initiate. Everyone should be able to initiate threads, but the privilege of commenting in a thread one has created should be up to the originator, who can deem which posts are relevant to his own thread - those that are barred from a particular thread can start their own to complain)

In particular, I am thoroughly fed up with MMaciej who is either an idiot or a troll or both, but seems to be bent on hijacking all discussions with worthless and repetitive posts. I know I want his posts removed en mass from all my own threads, and I am sure there are others that feel the same way about theirs.

I agree with the principle but not with method. That method has too often been used on other forums, and on this one too when we had a mod, (mugaliens) to repress valid criticisms. I suggested an integrty scoring system simply to expose posters and to warn readers of low integrity posters. All open and above board. Naturally, the ones who opposed are the ones who would score lowest, grapes, mugaliens.

    Here are those suggestions
What can we do to improve this forum?

I enjoy the conversations. Some times being challenged is a great trigger for more and different views..
~ and some times a different view is seen as a step forward.
We hardly need to or seldom should or even should want to ban a contributor..
I will share that MMaciej is the only blocked or ignored contributor.. I just could not tolerate any more..
I might seem a little less than tolerant, but I honestly do try to see the 'other' view. That everyone has a view, I accept.
Always listening, watching, learning. Wanting to comment not judge.

Maybe I was unclear. Everyone should have the option to initiate a thread. But the person who initiates the thread should be able to control who contributes to it, and remove only those contributors to his initiated threads that he finds abusive or irrelevant (the moderator could advise and consent). Those the initiator rejects would be free to start their own threads, responding if they think necessary to the thread from which they were rejected.

And of course, the initiator has the option to read the response threads if he desires (and be banned from responding there as well).

The thread initiator would be the judge, not the moderator.

I read your theory of everything and you might even have insights, but your unwillingness to submit to a peer review kinda makes you look like a whackadoodle.

Espescially if they further read that you don't like detractors from your theory.

Example...how do those few equations you have shown tie quantum gravity to general relativity?

Cant be snobbish when rocking the world, man.

    1. I don't consider anyone snarky to be my peer.
    2. At this point, I think quantum gravity is just QFT with a different value of C (so is general relativity if more than one mass is defined (by the separation ds2).
    3. This is not the the thread in which to discuss physics, although I will discuss snarkiness....

For example, kg4pae knows how to write Tex (which I know now how to do easily, using MathType), but doesn't understand what I am proposing, and therefore tells me I should read more textbooks, even when I refer to Wiki (and some of my ideas I haven't seen mentioned in any book I've read so far, but I am absolutely sure the topics are covered in an upper division Physics course at UCSB somewhere by at least one professor and included in some of the literature (probably sometime around 1925). So he is on my ignore list, since I am not going to get in a pissing contest about whether I should study more textbooks or not. Period. And his ignorance about why one sets c=1 in many physics contexts indicates he hasn't really thought about some of the fundamental issues involved, and instead of asking questions he snarks.

(the idea of setting any scalar equal to 1 is interesting because it implies 1 = 12, which admittedly, may be confusing if you don't understand the context ...)

As a counter example, the discussion I had with JDoolin on Relativity some time back was serious, and extended; he defended his position well, and we both clarified our concepts during the interchange. I was forced to be much more clear about some fundamental ideas, and in the end it was clear where we differed; nobody "won", and we (or at least I) gained a lot from the discussion...

Anyway, it should be clear that if someone is on my ignore list, I don't want them contributing to my threads - most are gentlemanly enough not to do so, except for MMaciej's graffiti, which is now just getting repetitive and ugly....

Please discuss snark, because the next step is outright rudeness. I'm guessing that you no longer have anything to contribute.

Just a guess....but I will no longer respond to you.

Hey! About about those Giants! Winning the World Series pennant for the umpteenth time. At 4-3, they...

    Oh, sorry Chuck.

Back on topic... That's actually a capability built in to vBulletin, but is only available in the moderator, super moderator, and admin groups. For normal users, it's not an option. Here's a screenshot I just took of my own forum's permissions screen (from the Admin control panel). All options are either Yes or No.

You're not the only one! In fact, I think most people on this forum want him either gone, or shoved into the ATM section where his nonsense belongs.

By not taking the proper action, whoever is at the helm of this forum these days winds up spoiling the experience for everyone. That negligence trashes the forum as much as anyone.
My oath of office never expires. "God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?" - Thomas Jefferson. "I have far too long suffered fools. No longer will I tolerate the insufferable. Enjoy the vacuum." - Mugs

PS: I scrambled my password, so no, I will not be responding. Get a clue.
