In the 2009 televised review session for the New York State Regents
Physics Exam, the instructor (a Mr. Kaschalk at Haverling High School,
Bath, NY) explained to the students about the "Law of Conservation of
Velocity". Of course, he was over-simplifying the Conservation of
Momentum for collisions of equal mass (a condition he did NOT
emphasize), but I think doing so was idiotic.
What will students remember when studying collisions next year at
college? Naturally, they'll remember the easier sounding
"Conservation of Velocity" and forget that of Momentum.
