Default Superfluid Dynamics are now Mathematically Described

Article: Physicists hit on mathematical description of superfluid dynamics

The challenge, Bulgac said, was to formulate the proper mathematical problem and then find a computer that could work through the problem as the number of variable changes reached 1 trillion or more.
Follow the link to find out how they solved the myriads of equations, and for the implications for understanding the superfluid behavior of the surface of neutron stars.

It also opens new directions of research in cold-atom physics.
Now that we have the mathematics and the computers to support the trillions of calculations required, we can begin designing machines which employ superfluid properties.
As for those whose curiosities fall along more fanciful lines, I suggest it's because they have more money than they know what to do with while not having had enough science and engineering to know what they're dealing with.

I'm a bit confused. The description made it sound as though they had been sitting around working through computations and puzzling out the new equations needed to model the behavior of superfluids.
But reading through it- it seemed to imply that they had the basic equations but only needed the calculating power to work through them.
    Which is it?

To what end? And at what cost?

Have you considered doing a bit of research yourself? No? Here you go....

I must have read more into your original comment than you had intended. For some reason (perhaps a lack of coffee) I had assumed that the 'machines' you were refering to were of the 'Radio Shack' variety....something along the lines that the amatuer can afford...not something requirng NSF or NASA funding....

Oh, heavens! If the Radio Shack approach were possible it'd have been done thirty to fifty years ago.

This one will require lots and lots of money.
