    Default Introducing myself

I have a PhD in high energy theoretical physics from the Rockefeller University. Heinz Pagels was one of my thesis advisers. I did a two-year postdoc at Brookhaven National Laboratories, studying topics related to grand unified theories. I found a relatively simple formula for the fermion masses that seems to imply at least one more level of compositeness beyond the known leptons and quarks. I am also very interested in muon-catalyzed nuclear fusion. I look forward to participating in this forum.

    Best regards,

    Randy

    Default Higgs Boson

Randy, would the level of compositness you refer to be related to the theoritical Higgs Boson?

    Hi Randy,

Nice to see a good mix of people who share a love for physics.

Looking forward to some passionate discussions. Especially about the Standard Model and its predictions. I for one predict the collapse of the Standard Model and that the Higgs boson and associated Higgs field do not exist. In fact, I believe that the search for the Higgs is the modern equivalent of the search for the ether.

My web page is about: Exciting Science of Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Volcanoes, Supervolcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Seismology, Plate Tectonics,Geology and Astronomy. Causes of earthquakes and hurricanes. Use of Seismology to locate earthquakes. Discussion of hotspot plumes deep in the earth ; supervolcanoes , Toba and Yellowstone; and how much they impacted life on earth. Terrors such as Krakatau, near Indonesia

The most infamous Tsunami of modern times hit Indian Ocean shorelines on the day after Christmas 2004, and it killed about 228,000 people in a single day. This was caused by a big underwater earthquake, magnitude about 9.1 in the Sunda megathrust region.

Regading controlled nuclear fusion, this article appeared in the Oragnge County Register a few days ago:

A private company in Foothill Ranch that is reportedly experimenting with nuclear fusion power has raised $50 million in funding, according to a report from Socaltech.com.

Little more information was available Monday about the experiments at the company, Tri-Alpha Energy, or the funding itself. In the past, Socaltech reported, Tri-Alpha has received funding from Goldman Sachs, Venrock, Vulcan Capital and New Enterprise Associates.

Tri-Alpha’s experiments, based on the work of UC Irvine plasma physics professor Norman Rostoker, have been rumored for years, but the company has not revealed the nature of its experiments to the public.

Solcaltech calls it a “stealth developer of advanced plasma fusion technology.”
