    Default A new base number.?

Please try and understand that what I am suggesting is not to be taken too seriously.. ( Its maths. )

Hell, I do not take myself seriously so know one else should.. I do want your opinions please.

The standard Imp system uses the 'Inch Foot, Mile as its standard. All things regarding distance seem to be able to be related to that..

While the metric system uses the Metre. It at least seems to be based on the 10 digit numeric system we have all gotten used to.

That can be a interesting argument. But is not my angle on this occasion... I want to test my own blend of stupid...

'If we used pi as our number base ?' Not 3.1428... but 1. and now that it's written, I feel even sillier.

I seem to have not understood myself. Can the whole basses of mathematics be changed ?

Could one or some of you Maths heads look at what I have not said well ? and comment... please..

Sure, it's possible to use pi (3.14159... by the way) as a number base. However, our number pi would be written 10, not 1.

I'm not sure using irrational bases is a really great idea when we have people struggling with base 10, but if we keep using integer digits, then 0.333... would be greater than 1. In fact, 0.33 would be greater than one, for people who don't believe it's possible to define 0.333.... In fact, 0.31 would be greater than one.

Edited to add - hmm, at this place, marxist2 claims pi does not exist.

If we use 1/10 as the number base, pi = ...95141.3

Should we start using this base in our posts

At some point in the 0.999... thread, I mentioned that if you think there is one-to-one mapping between (possibly infinite) decimal representations and the numbers, than you create a whole bunch of new numbers and exterminate a whole bunch of old numbers every time you change base . . .

Approximate in base , or exact in base 22/7?

    Yes, both.

Although I'm not sure what 7 and 5 mean in base pi...

I thought you might have meant base 1/10 at first, but then 0.333... makes no sense.

Say, why do we always write the base in decimal? Shouldn't we use that base?
