1. ## Functions

-----------------------------------------------
Since some on this forum seem unfamiliar with the concept of function (especially as regards the derivative) I thought I'd provide a direct reference link for those new to the subject.

FUNCTION

(It is with a view to helping John Gabriel understand the role of curvature, who at present seems to be only vaguely familiar with the concept of a straight line, but can (almost) calculate the slope correctly ...

However, the reader may need to refer first to the equation of a straight line....

The correct slope is given by

where m = 0.

(John Gabriel's red line is too long and in the wrong vertical position because of m)
One then takes the limit on n->0 for the linear derivative:

,

which eliminates (i.e. makes insignificant) higher orders of f(x) (i.e., curvature) when n gets small enough for an arbitrary function f(x) at an arbitrary position x ; i.e., (x, f(x)) = (x, y(x)) ..

How cute, care to give the fundational definition from set theory? I doubt you know it but humor me!

Totally irrelevant. Shows your ignorance of independent variables along with any other concept relevant to calculus.
Stop spamming my threads with buzzword bullshit. Get out of my thread..

Not at all, it is relevant because it'll once again show your ignorance.

Your ignorance on the topic of mathematics does not mean what I say is buzzword bullshit.

Can you cite the definition or not?

Not with irrelevant buzzwords and intellectual spam from idiots.

Instead of declaring it 'buzzwords,' it might be more productive to Meet The Challenge.
This is not a University, it is a Forum for the Free Exchange of Ideas.

Not with irrelevant buzzwords and intellectual spam from nasty idiots.
For my threads intellectual discussion and response from me requires not only intelligence, but courtesy, responsibility, and relevance. Naked Emperor's posts (and many of yours) are merely insults, buzzwords, misguided appeals to authority and irrelevant spam not worthy of a response.

Others can clatter around in their own echo chambers on my threads - I have no control over that, but I will not contribute to their silly and unpleasant noise. We all come from different backgrounds and expertise; in particular, personal invective may be entertaining to you, but it is not to me.

And this diversion is not relevant to this thread. Stop spamming it.

Except I don't use buzzwords, I use legitimate established known and understood mathematical terminology in their proper sense. So you are merely trying to do handwaving as you know you cannot do it and it'll mark you as the idiot that you are.
