    Default The Borg and You

What do you think the chances are that a cybernetic race hell bend on perfection actually exists? Maybe not in this quadrant, galaxy, or even galaxy cluster...but somewhere out there...

I think it's completely possible. I might even go so far as to say it's likely.
They would just need to be a race that is a few million years older us, and looked at technology the same way that we do.

    Any thoughts?

I'd say that it may be us in the (near?) future but I don't think, if the BB is real, that the Universe has had enough 'time' for such to have already taken place. On the other hand, if ST is real, it may already exist.

It might be argued that the lack of ETs is an argument for BB (they have precious few).

However there are so many UFO sightings that are clearly real. But are they natural phenomena or aliens? I have no idea. If there is a policy of non-interference until species become civilized, then we are likely to be kept out of the club for a long time yet.

Because I can imagine the future of our species, if it persists, being cybernetic I consider a "borg" plausible. Realistically, I tend to think animals like us will go the way of 99% of every other life that has arisen on Earth ... Perhaps though, our existence may be remembered through some future AI. Hopefully it's not a malevolent intelligence.

i couldn't disagree more. What if nature got it right the first time on our planet and skipped the dinosaurs. It would have to be a completely new set of circumstances but just bear with me for a moment.
The dinosaurs were around for about 160 million years. And from what we can find from fossils, therse were just "dumb" animals. Tool users, possibly, but they wernt interested in science.
Now what if, 160 million years ago, instead of dinosaurs, man's ancestors came first. Then human civilization would be 160 million years more advanced than we are now.
assuming we wouldn't go extinct from either ourselves or natural phenomenon.(asteroid, super volcano ect.)

using planet earth isnt a great example, but hopefully it conveys my point.

Well, if you want to play that game, Joe. Let's assume that 'nature' got it right the first time. Let's also assume 'she' was happy with 'her' results. What do we have...a bunch of dinosauers skipping around because no natural phenomenon came about to destroy them...thus preventing humanity from ever getting started...

My point is that it's totally possible for a race, somewhere out there, to be a few million years older than us, intelligent or otherwise.

If it is the Borg that come, I refuse to be assimilated unless they send Seven of Nine.

There I go again....forgetting to add the after my comment. Of course, of all the possibilties available, that is certainly one. For that matter, Neandrathal could have been the 'winner' with modern H. sapien losing out.
