Bless you, Mr Mirth, may you find mirth in this world!
I tend to think Socrates existed but claims for his existence don't come close to the extraordinary claims of virgin birth, divinity and resurrection.
When you say you tend to believe in Socrates, do you mean you have some doubt. Why?

Everyday my friend, everyday, although I can't say it's attributable to blessings from some interventionist god.

I've seen that argument before: "there's as much evidence for Jesus as there is Socrates ... why do you believe one existed and not the other?"
I can grant there's as little evidence for the existence of Socrates but the claim for his existence is not an extraordinary claim as is the virgin birth, divinity and resurrection of Jesus.

And yet, at this point, what kind of evidence would convince you? None, I'm afraid. Just like your doubt they need evidence, I doubt you really want evidence, either. You both are pains.

    Again, bless you.

Ha! I'd certainly reconsider my position if virgin birth and or resurrection could be shown as factual, but that still wouldn't prove any divinity.

That's what I meant--except I suspect that not only would the first two be hard to prove to you, now even, what's to say you'd accept them as applying to the previous case?

By confronting them, you're not really trying to be scientific, but hey Carl Sagan was famously a BH too! Bless you.

Indeed. If they were proven I'd have to go back and accept any number of stories of virgin birth and resurrection from the ancient world.

    A BH?

And when you say "bless you" what do you mean exactly?
Are you a man of the cloth, a mediator betwixt god and me, a spokesperson for the almighty? What would convince you your blessings have worked?

So, if someone apparently dead is brought back to life today, you'd have to go back and believe the stories?

    That's what I thought but I wasn't sure!

If you want to find the Sagan story, look for BHA
