Would this have implications to the theoretical inflation period of the Big Bang?
Hi Lynn...See the thread FTL Nutrinos ... what if it is proved that they did in face travel faster than light? under the Forum SpaceTime and the Universe as that is where some replies have been already made that may interest you.

I think it would have implications on almost everything! This is a fundimental piece of the whole physics puzzle. Many of the assumptions of the big bang is based on the FACT that things dont travel faster than the speed of light. If that FACT is not true ( not a fact ) the whole puzzle probably needs to be redone.
From what I understand the inflation period does not break the rules of SR ... I believe it has to do with space expanding rather than objects moving away from each other. But maybe someone else can discuss why it is legal under SR/GR.

"I'm totally freakin out!"
No I'm jesting. Apologies for my lack of etiquette. I couldn't help myself.
On a more serious note, I read the article. Any new updates on this?
They've recanted the research, too many people were freaking out.
The article said that they ran the experiment 16,000 times.
And Grapes, how do you recant research? Was it something like, "OH that experiment I ran 16000 times that proved you can break the speed of light- yea my bad on that, just forget I said anything."![]()
