As a Trekkie, I'd definitely have to say Star Wars is cooler than Star Trek. No, I didn't get that backwards.
Great question/poll!
Star Trek was visionary, and TNG sets and plots were cutting edge. Voyager, however, wasn't much of an improvement, DS9 went in the wrong direction, and Enterprise, while good, was merely a return to the what made the original series and TNG so well liked in the first place. Regardless, within each series, the plots were fairly disjointed. Between the series, however, it was highly fragmented.
Star Wars, on the other hand, wove a seamless story between all six versions, made even more fantastic by the fact Lucas filmed the 4th episode first and finished with the first three episodes last. That and his ILM team pushed the boundaries of CG so far into the future that even today ILM does things other studios can't. Light sabers defeating deadly space rifles and melting 2 ft think unobtanium vault doors? The Force? Personal spaceships which fly and do battle like fighters (as opposed to Trek's shuttles which are dumpier than a WWII launch used to ferry people back and forth from ship to shore).
To it's credit, Trek delved far deeper and more realistically into the human element than Star Wars ever could. Perhaps that's because Trek's writers "got it" while Lucas himself never seemed to relate well with others. It shows in that the on-screen relationships seem contrived. My heart has filled with emotion at many episodes in TNG and a few in Voyager. No so in any Star Wars moment.
As for those whose curiosities fall along more fanciful lines, I suggest it's because they have more money than they know what to do with while not having had enough science and engineering to know what they're dealing with.
Star Wars. Due to the fact, Star Trek, everything they come across tries to kill them or assimilate them. I'm sorry, I like knowing what is good and evil then make my decision on which I will boot first. With so many bad things in star trek, my feet will get tired from kicking so much ass. Plus, droids are easier to kill....simple emp their metallic arse.
Star Wars is way cooler.
Hello...! Anakin Skywalker? Darth Vader!? You can't get cooler than tragic heros(or is it heroes with an "e"- sorry, I suck at English. I <3 chem)
and as I agree with most of this...and could not word it better.. there it is, my view is as Mugaliens; and the obligatory BUT...
Yes the Epic stories were interwoven seamlessly in the Starwars films.. But the made for television TNG and Voyager.. were more of humanity.
So I rank them as better.. but its a close thing.. they were quiet different. Its a unfair comparison..
I like the line used recently....
"when the Star destroyer opens fire on the Enterprise.. with laser canons and all..
" Jordie informs the Captain that 'they' are firing lasers at us sir and they do not have shields sir.
Pichard just orders a Photon Torpedo beamed to there bridge.."
Its that, sort of better.. Interestingly, one of these choices is a science fiction of the past,
and a long long way away But it all was.. just fiction..
While the other is in OUR future, maybe.

Star Wars is cooler. Just for the variety of artistic expression in the ships, the aliens, the furniture, the buildings, the props. Stuff in Star Trek TNG looks like it was bought at The Pacific Design Center on Melrose in West Hollywood and in TOS it was from K-Mart. Not cool. Except for the chicks and their costumes in TOS. Aliens in Star Trek, speed bumps on forehead. Chicks on Star Trek, speed bumps on forehead. So few hot chicks in TNG and its derivatives you have to include Klingon chicks to fill out the list and two of them were savagely ugly. But still cleavage which is cool. Although there was a hot Romulan and a hot Klingon babe in TOS.

Starwars is a classic fairy tale, where as Star Trek is a sci-fi soap opera!
Although i am a big fan of both!!
But I must admit T'Pol does it for me
