I haven't read the book in awhile. I believe the slosh plates were used to prevent an imbalance when the vehicle changed direction and/or when the ship was initially rotated.

Another book that you may want to read is "star lost'. There was a Canadian T.V. show based on the book (the show wasn't that great). The reason I mention the book is it describes certain things you might want to include in your manuscript. (i.e., The need for an auxiliary bridge, why each culture was separated from others - to preserve cultural diversity/tradition - An Amish society would be separated from one that was technologically based. The ship crew had to use "bounce tubes" to get from on part of the ship to another. Rendezvous with Rama and Star Lost should give you some ideas on how the "designers/writers of these ships" approached certain technical problems. Good luck
