    Default Movie »Gravity«

Well, in spite of good acting on the part of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, this movie is rather pathetic on plot and use of 3-D and its science.

I went with a fellow astronomer and his comment was that the most intriguing part of the movie was that Dr Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) seemed to always end up wearing sweaty T-shirts and loosing her bolts and end up with camera shots that showed her as "leggy". Besides obvious flaws in the science such as a Soyuz capsule that bore no resemblance to reality, the rest of the science begged credibility to the point where they got it right is barely memorable.

My take on »Gravity« is that you should save your money and see something better: perhaps something with the Smurfs.

    Terrible physics.
    Terrible orbital mechanics.
    Terrible astronautics.
    Terrible dialog.
    Nauseating cinematography.
    Irritating heroine.
    Utterly implausible plot.

    Pretty.

And someone should have told George Clooney how the word "soyuz" is pronounced.
    It's "suh-yooz" (Russian) or "soy-ooz" (English) not "soh-yez" (Clooney).

~ Yes having now watched this film in 3D.. I agree that the whole story goes down the drain soon after the first encounter with the debris field.. The whole ropes and capsules thing just makes a mockery of good science.. There is a pathetic attempt at making a blockbuster movie.. they have made a for public consumption movie. Unfortunately we might know better, but 90% of the movie audience have not the slightest idea.. we should not grumble too loudly.. Putting such as this film before the public must be a good thing.. but for the appalling gaffs made excepted. Raising public awareness of issues of space exploration could be good thing.. It's dangerous.

Sounds to me like you might have enjoyed this very fine film if you would have left your astronomer friend at home.

Fortunately, the movie wasn't made for the 10% that ridicule anything they didn't spend millions on.

I would be more impressed if told us of a movie you DID enjoy without your astronomer buzz kill.
