I understand that it is believed the universe is infinite in extent with an infinite amount of matter and that it is flat to the best of our knowledge. What I don't understand is how it went from, perhaps, a quantum vacuum fluctuation to infinite.I mean, is that what is currently understood to have happened? I don't see how it could have gone from a singularity, then to some finite size, and then to infinite size. It seems to me that it would have to become infinite in extent the moment after the big-bang. Any thoughts? In a "global" sense (observing the infinite extent of the universe the moment after the big-bang), it seems to me that the matter within the universe would be at nearly infinite density...throughout the infinite extent of the universe.Thanks,m74
