The ISS currently has three laboratory modules attached: Destiny (USA), Columbus (Europe), Kibo (Japan). A pair of mini-labs from the Russian side are on the cards.First big question: who the hell operates these labs? There are only three people onboard the space station permanently now that the habitation module has been mothballed. Who the hell finds the time to do all this in addition to all the other tasks?Second big question: do these modules have any distinction other than the political grouping which takes the credit for them? Is Columbus, just to pick one at random, up their to fly the European flag, or does it actually add some unique research capability to the station?Third slightly smaller question: are they still using Unity for research purposes or has that been cleaned out now?
