For many years I have reasoned that matter, at absolute zero, would self destruct. I base this on the +- charge of the electron/protons. Without the electrons orbiting, I believe that they would slam into the nucleus resulting in fission.
If this proves to be the case, then this could hold clues to what will happen in the distant future of the universe. When the universe cools to absolute zero then the atoms themselves will decay and re-explode. This would result in a continually expanding universe.
Anyone wanna pontificate on this one???![]()
