Hi, Image: http://trace.lmsal.com/POD/images/T1...809_230034.gif http://trace.lmsal.com/POD/images/T1...809_230034.gif I've searched the forum for the answer, but have either missed it, or it isn't there... Has anyone determined the strength of the magnetic loops on the Sun by determining the loops oblateness deviating from a circle? The reasoning would be that the gravitational pull of the Sun imposes itself upon the structure of the loop. Since we know the gravitational pull of the Sun, should we not be able to calculate magnetic force necessary to resist oblateness? I'm sure it must have been done. Since I am just a layman I have no idea where to find the information. Could someone direct me or voice an opinion?
