Models show that there is almost no chance of it hitting the earth in 2028, but if it passes through the right spot, it could be nudged out of it's path just so that it would hit the earth when it comes around again. Sir, do you have any sauce on this asteroid? Just a name would be sublime! You see, NASA has a Near-Earth-Object website, that you can go and look up an asteroid or comet that gives yu all the equations you need to do the math or you can let a nifty flash program simulate it for you and give you a fun little animation. I learned on that website, that alot more asteroids(potentally dangerous ones) come between the earth and the moon more often than i would expect....or like to know.

Joe, I think it's 2010 UE, if I remember correctly. I vaguely remember reading something about this a while ago although I thought the return date was later. NEO's website can be found at http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov

I agree with roncj, love can't be seen, but felt. If the world is to end in 2012, let it be! If not, well, we all have many years to hang out and disscuss space!

Its name is 99942 Apophis or 2004 MN4. If it passes through this right spot, it will strike Earth on exactly April 13, 2036. If you want to find out more about it, you could visit Wikipedia, or just turn on the Science Channel (there's about a 2/3 chance that something about the end of the world will be on the Science Channel at any given moment!).
    Paige: "I need a f*cking cigarette!"
Me: "Why? What's wrong with a regular one?"

The Wikipedia page gives the probability of a 2036 impact as 1 in 250,000. It also gives the areas likely to be affected, if anyone wants to make their hotel reservations now
