I still see people posting nonsense about a 2012 apocalypse. I can only wonder how much this is upsetting archaeologists that specialize in Mayan civilization. Perhaps they have to roll their eyes much more so than astronomers, when asked about it.

What are your ideas about 2012? What do you think is going to happen? I personally think it'll be the same as 2000, when the world was supposed to end then.
A disaster occurs each year for some people and the next two or three years are likely to be worse than usual, because of the excesses of governments, and increasing character flaws among the population of most countries. There will be no connection to the end of the Mayan calendar other than possibly some self fulfilling prophesy, such as bad decisions motivated by the 2012 nonsense. Yes, Mayan archaeologists are likely appalled. Neil
I think it is suppose to be the bottom of the curve tracing out the 25to27,000 year earth wobble. I am confused as to why passing through the galactic plane would be considered the bottom of the curve. Supposedly humans will begin their enlightenment. From reading these scientific thoughts, I would say were well on the way. The bad news is that any appreciable enlightenment may be 1000s of years in the future. Let us believe that we are turning some kind of corner, and that better times are here. I see no reason why we can't celebrate life and good times. wolf
Just some food for thought: an asteroid the size of a city block (about the size of the asteroid in the Tunguska incident) is predicted to pass by earth in 2028, circle around the sun, and pass by again in 2036. Models show that there is almost no chance of it hitting the earth in 2028, but if it passes through the right spot, it could be nudged out of it's path just so that it would hit the earth when it comes around again. Perhaps the media was 24 years off? ;D
Paige: "I need a f*cking cigarette!"
Me: "Why? What's wrong with a regular one?"
I'd suggest you take two aspirin and see me in the morning but then I'd have the FDA accusing me of practicing medicine without a license so instead I'd posit that whomever carved the stone figured that was a good place to end as there was no more space to chisel anymore information....
david,i totally agree.why has noone talked about or even entertianed the idea that it is just the end of that calander.i have friends that get freaked out by the "prophicy".i ask them and all who beleive i it,did the world end when your calander ended on dec 31 every year?what will they think when they find the next stone calander?i did just see a blurb about how it might be incomplete.i didnt get to read it yet.i do think the mayians were in tune with nature, but you probly had to be to flurish back then.i dont recall the stone mentioning anything about the death of mankind.yes there will be some really cool astro events happening that year.and i think they knew this, but i dont think they will be the death of us all.
I want the world to come to an end in 2012, in fact, I want it to come to an end, anytime, anybody says it will. Why not? As an artist, I get sick of the whole stupid planet believing in things they can't prove and can't see. How 'bout something different? How 'bout instead of thinking of "me-me-me, how is this gonna effect me," we start thinking about how to make the world a better place for everyone else. Any thoughts on that one? What is so funny about peace, love and understanding? On a comical note, if the world does come to an end in 2012, that would just ruin my day. Kinda like getting a hangnail. I swear if it was possible and I knew the rest of human kind wouldn't come along, I'd move to Mars in a New York minute.
if you dont believe in things you cant see than how can you believe in love? just because you cant see it,doesnt mean it doesnt exist.can you see the air? just making a piont.i get what you are saying, but i think it needs to be put differently.i agree that the world needs to become one.instead of "i live in this country or state"how about i live on earth?or the realization that my race is not white, hispanic or asian, etc. but human.if we think of ourselve as a whole, then we can start acting that way.
