The 55% illuminated waxing gibbous Moon will occult magnitude +1.1 Antares for many North Americans during the afternoon of 2009 AUG 27. Optical aid will be required for this daytime event. Immersion will occur on the lunar dark limb and emersion on the bright limb. The northern graze path will pass through the Boston area. Observers on the path will be able to witness the star winking on and off as lunar hills and valleys pass by. Those located between the two graze paths will see a full occultation.I’ve created a graze map for the Americas. It can be seen by clicking: http://www.curtrenz.com/astronomicalPhotos and descriptions of the occultation would be welcome additions to this thread.
