When I look into an ATM or any other topic because the title looks interesting I look for the meaning of what the OP writes. Mostly I skip past much of the replies as contributing little to the OP for various reasons. I see a lot of replies that add to the OP but a lot that don't. I can see how moderators skipping over replies to the OP for the same reasons can focus their attention on OP posts overlooking bad posts by others. This gives an impression that moderators are a priori against ATM and other OPers (I suspect some are) and are enforcing the rules against them (in some cases appearing to fabricate charges) while letting respondants (non OPers) get away with a lot more. I suggest that an addition be added to the "Advise to ATM Posters" thread. ATM posters should be advised to use the report function themselves as soon as they have a respondant make a bad post. The OP should be given extra latitude in making more reports for his own threads. The moderators still make the call of whether it really is a bad post. Moderators should take care that they are making the call on the report itself not on their opinion of the validity of the OP or his argument. This could enhance keeping threads on topic, reducing animus in threads due to under or one sided moderation (and the appearance of validating bad posts) and holding both sides in a discussion to standards of dicipline without moderators reading all but the problematic posts.
