Default Observing M31

Hi Im a complete noob to astronomy, Ive had a few clear nights hear in Ireland and have been trying to observe m31, is it hard to spot in general with a smallish reflector? Also I saw what I think may have been a fireball lastnight, it was a really bright (curved) streak that appeared for about 3 seconds and appeared to be flying towards the earth. It was much brighter than any of the perseids that I saw a while back...
