The thing is that any perception of time needs to progress in a positive direction ... sort of like distance traveled can not be a negative value.
I can think of two reasons:
1. To see what actually happened in the past to better understand how to operate today.
2. To see what will happen in the future for same reason.
I like this explanation...makes thinking about time travel a bit easier....bravo!
technically if you were traveling into the future by traveling in your spaceship way faster than 33,000 kmh and you observed where you left while you were traveling wouldn't you be looking into the past?
I mean if they were observing you somehow wouldnt they be looking into the past? Being your existence and reality inside the ship is slowed?
