We have all noticed how the growth of knowledge has become exponential, and growing steeper every day. And a while back I saw how Korean kids plug themselves into the internet 24 hours a day. (I am sure other nations have this problem too.) And the other day I was watching some teenagers whip out their phones and text like it was second nature, like they were born with the attachment. Maybe I am just gettin old, but it seams as though man is no longer in the driving seat. I had the thought that man is not the top of the pyramid, but some other life force was pushing us onward. Like it was anxious to escape the confines of earth. I don't have the answer, but I wonder why the knowledge of today becomes old and replaced by new knowledge. Do you think there is one person on earth who can build a car from scratch, build a computer from scratch. Does any body know how many 1's and 0's it took to write and send and receive this letter over the internet? Who is in control?

"CONTROL" is a big concept. "We" generally accept two big illusions: 1- ... that "We" are the carbon units that carries our consciousness around. 2- ... that "We" as carbon units are separate from all that is. (1) As we know from physics, energy cannot be created or destroyed. Eneregy IS ... Consciousness is energy, ergo consciousness continues after these physical bodies no longer function. (2) The universe (and all things) derive from the same source energy and all things are connected via an energy web. Maybe this energy connecting all things is the invisible "cosmic constant" energy suggested in science circles. * Realized that "control" can be added to the illusion list which now becomes the "big three" illusions. After this energy stream gained a big picture perspective of existence and gained the realization of these illusions, "things" flow much better through this physical existence.

I understand your concerns but propose the following for consideration.

I don't believe that technological advances are anything to be worried about, on the contrary in fact I believe them to something we should embrace. Today's technologies are a byproduct of yesterdays great advancements. The final products we see today were most commonly not the direct result intended when the projects were originally conceived. More often then not in fact these technologies are so old that those who use them most were not even alive when they were invented. This is surely represented in the cases that you pointed out in regards to the internet or cell phones. We have to remember that all technologies were new and evil at one point in time. The radio was said to be the death of the printed word, the printing press was feared by the ruling class because it was thought that the common man didn't need to read. Everything progresses and it does so very quickly.

To answer another question you put forth though, I would say no, I don't believe that there are at least very many people that can build a car from the ground up or other such tasks. But I also think that this is OK, with aformentioned technological advances also came advances and almost the requirement for specialized labor. This is a very common theme among many fields and I think it is just spreading to be more common among all aspects of life. I wouldn't want a dentist to give me a heart transplant.

All in all I believe that its not the technological advances that are the factor to be feared but how they are used. Unfortunately, we within an older guard can not see the end result to the technology that may in fact the fundamental building blocks to mass transit space travel, cure to cancers, better understanding between peoples of conflict or other great advances.

No, consciousness is not energy--at least, there's no reason to think that it is--though it presumably requires energy to 'exist'. Moreover, energy itself is physical, and, while it cannot be destroyed, it can be converted from one form into another. So there's no valid "energy argument" for life after death, sorry.

<<(2) The universe (and all things) derive from the same source energy and all things are connected via an energy web.>>

This isn't physics; this is New Age religion.
