Default Challenge to the Standard Model?

    Hi all,

    Just read this book:-

'Relativity + : The theory of everything' : John Duffield/pub: Corella Ltd, UK 2009
    ISBN 978-0-9560978-0-4

Being a purely amateur cosmologist, with an interest in modern scientific theory, I found this book surprising and somewhat controversial.

    Has this book been peer-reviewed?

Anyone else have any views, or comments?

I am keen to extend my understanding in this area.

    TIA

    Steve

Peer review in the case of books does not have the same meaning that it does in the case of articles. In the case of articles, passing peer review is required before any respectable journal will publish them. Much of this same work may be published in books. However, works may find their way into books through a number of routes. In the case of the book in question, its author John Duffield is an amateur physicist. At least, John Duffield is referred to as an amateur physicist. In fact, John Duffield is the pseudonym used by Amrit S. Sorli who claims to work for the Scientific Research Centre BISTRA Ptuj (Slovenia). Serious scientists--professionals and amateurs alike--publish under their own names, not pseudonyms. Sorli's publication house, Corella, Ltd., makes barely a blip on Google.com. You may rest assured that the book has not been peer reviewed.

It might be more useful if you would state your understanding of the principle thesis of the book. As if we agree or disagree or ask for explanations of the points made in the book.
